![]() When I signed up, it was at a good price, so I just went with it.įrom the PC to the NAS I sync with Resilio sync or just mirror the files with a free backup app regularly (FBackup). Hyper Backup (which is Synology’s app for backups, it runs on the NAS) can handle various backup destinations, so you don’t have to choose C2. Hyper Backup picks it up from there and backs it up to Synology C2 every night. My setup is like this: I mirror or sync everything from my PC to the NAS that needs to be backed up. I don’t know what kinds of files you have, but I haven’t had any issues. “Hyper Backup features block-level incremental backup to back up only the modified/added data chunks of a file after first-time backup, rather than the whole file.” (Source: ) But other than that, no problems with it whatsoever. The only times I got notifications is when space was filling up. You set it up, and you can forget about it. I have been using Synology C2 cloud backup for about 3-4 years.Have used it succesfully numerous times, hence nowadays I have a subscription, for being able to have the latest and greatest. Restore can be done of individual files or the whole system by booting from a rescue usb pen drive. Depending on size a laptop is ready and done within 30 minutes. This with tools like Acronis you can restore the whole system as-is, exactly as it was at time of backup, instead of needing to reinstall the os, install and configure all applications and then restore individual files. I prefer tools that make image level backups rather than just syncing or copying individual files. Having a 2nd nas I considered more cost effective than putting all of it in the cloud. I backup our laptops and pc usi g Acronis to the nas and then from there to the 2nd nas. The bulk I backup to a 2nd nas I put at a friend's place. You might wanna have something backed up local, for a fast restore as ypu'd otherwise have to depend on availability and speed of the internet connection.Īs I use my nas for more than just the storage of backups, but also as regular fileserver and runnong various apps and services on it, it made sense in my case.Īlso due to sheer size, I don't even backup eveything from there t the cloud but only a subset, gping to Backblaze B2 using hyperbackup. If ypu don't need a nas to store files, then just purchasing one for a backup might be overkill, then a usb drive might just do finr.
